| Name: | Baba Yaga |
|---|---|
| Location: | Russian Federation |
Baba Yaga personifies the old, evil witch stereotype. She flies around on a huge mortar (using the pestle as a rudder and sweeping her trail away with a white birch broom), kidnaps and eats naughty children, and lives in a hut on chicken legs deep in the forest. She's usually seen as the bad guy, but sometimes she's sought for her wisdom, since she is presumably ageless.
Depending on the story, Baba Yaga's house is sometimes connected to three horses and riders. The white rider and horse are Day; the red rider and horse are the Sun; and the black horse and rider are Night. Depending on her mood, she will either answer any questions about her servants, or kill the person inquiring.
She has been known to help people who are on a quest, but this is a rare occurrence. She is obsessed with politeness, and if one wants her aid, it is a must. She will dismiss anyone in Bar who treats her with any disrespect. It is also suggested that if one wishes to seek her aid, one should prepare and purify one's soul. She is basically a brush with all that is evil in the world, kind of like the Devil in some aspects. However, she's pre-Christianity, so she is neither a
completely good or completely evil character. This is important to emphasize.
Baba Yaga physically ages one year every time she is asked a question, so she really hates answering them. However, since the tales about her are not told or believed very often, she's faded into obscurity--much like a dead god. She will likely become Bar-bound, since the world she knows and loves is gone. This makes her melancholy and more prone to being cranky.
Baba Yaga is from Russian mythology, and is the property of students of mythology, I think. She appears here solely for the purpose of role-playing in , from which no profit whatsoever is being made.
